Tanabata: The Star Festival & Announcement

Vortex of Changing EmotionsA Vortex of Changing Emotions
Tanabata #6
As the yearly journey
of separation and sadness

slowly comes to an end,

the pair is overwhelmed by

a vortex of changing emotions –

wishes to secretly slip away

and hitch a quick ride

to the star-studded heavens.

The cycle, however, is fixed,

patience required to wait

for the appointed evening.

One night of ecstasy

that erases the sorrow

of departure and

annual segregation.

Lainie Senechal

Tanabata:  According to legend, each July 7th the weaver star (Vega) and cowherder star (Altair) traverse the Milky Way to renew their ancient bond of love.

In Its Time & Announcement

Frist BlossomsFirst Blossoms of Spring

In Its Time

Spring’s heat is brief;

one waits with excitement

for relief from winter’s woes.

Though the heart beats with expectation –

cold, raw days continue.

Do not sweat weather’s worries,

stay calm, spring will,

in its time, arrive.

Early April & Announcement

Blue Iris

Blue Iris

Early April

In strengthening spring sun

last remnants of snow dissolve –

drip from roof’s edges,

form rivulets along path.

Robins arrive in garden, search

for worms under decaying leaves.

Sprouts of daffodils stretch

their long, green limbs upwards

as if to gather armfuls

of shimmering solar rays.

Lainie Senechal

Announcement:  I am exhibiting my watercolors in a group show at Amesbury City Hall during the month of April.

All Systems Go & Announcement

Purple Crocus

Purple Crocus

All Systems Go

The shine of quarter moon

fades into new light

from fire of rising sun.

Mist, a white shroud,

hovers as a gaseous vapor

above lake’s thinning ice.

Nature puts on the other shoe

with all systems set

to go towards spring.

Earth RunesEarth Runes

Rune #8

The times manifest

an emotional miasma,

runes may pinpoint

the way to rise

from depths of despair.

The dark sky, tonight,

like dome of a deep cavern,

is rich with stars –

fires that burn with

an eternal light.

September Morning & Announcement

Two SunflowersSunflowers Awaken

September Morning

A morning of secrets –

a halo of mist rings

the cooling lake,

catches in branches

of tall trees along shore.

In some spots the sun

breaks through, bright

rays explode on ripples

created by rising wind which

cleans out remaining wisps,

pushes tethered boats

to rub and squeak against docks,

while a kingfisher rattles above:

the song of a September morn.

Lainie Senechal

Announcement:  Lainie will be exhibiting artwork with members of the Kaji Aso Studio at the Fenway Community Center, 1282 Boylston St., Boston. The exhibit runs from Sept. 1 through Dec. 31st with an opening reception on Sept. 16th from 3-5 PM.  Free and open to the public.

Full Moon is a White Rose & Announcement

White Rose

Full Moon is a White Rose

The full moon is a white rose

dropping petals of light

along the bridge and

into the sparkling river.

They float on silver waves,

not to pollute, but to

revolve among the stars,

like whirling galaxies, creating
a mystical atmosphere
for their yearly rendezvous.

Lainie Senechal

Lainie will exhibit paintings and read her poetry at this event:

Mid-Summer & Announcement

scan 1-5.31.17Summer Sunset

Mid- Summer

Cacophony of sparrows

that nest in each corner

of porch break stillness

of lake absent of breezes.

All is calm except

occasional announcements

from boys’ camp

and a solitary speedboat,

skier in tow.

Waves from its wake

cause docks to creak,

for a moment,

then settle in to silence.

The lake and sky

remain serene, like lovers

after heat of passion subsides.

Lainie Senechal

Announcement: Lainie will read poetry at 11 AM during Amesbury Days Art Show and Sale, Saturday, June 24th at City Hall, Amesbury, MA.

Spring Rises & Announcement

Pussy WillowsPussy Willows

Spring Rises

Shoots of daffodils rise,

again, from frozen ground.

They have not forgotten

the time of season;

they dream of yellow

while tips of their stems,

like soft tongues,

are tempted to taste

the cool spring air.

Curtain descends on winter;

no stopping the progression.

Empty branches, which grate

against sturdy March winds,

bear rows of swelling buds.

Lainie Senechal

Announcement:  Lainie will host a reception for her exhibit of watercolors, The Language of Light, at the Provident Bank, 1Provident Way, Seabrook, NH from 5:30 – 7:30 PM.

Late Winter & Announcement

Darl clouds 2Dark Clouds

Late Winter

Late winter wind that

howled through budding branches,

chased clouds from night sky,

is mum in morning’s first moment.

Dawn’s bright light phosphoresces

off long slabs of ice that float

randomly on lake’s slight waves.

Seagulls line up in a row, ready

for the ride, and watch with wonder

the enfolding of spring.

Lainie Senechal

Announcement: On March 23rd at 5:30PM there will be an opening for Lainie”s exhibit, The Language of Light, at The Provident Bank, 1 Provident Way (off of Lafayette Rd.), Seabrook, NH. Light refreshments.
